A whitetail has a growing need to gather a record of different scents attached to each deer in the herd and this data is gathered buy lip curling .Lip curling is a way for a whitetail to use its glands in the lip to collect scents and store these scents in its memory.This gives each whitetail a collective data of intruders and local herds . A whitetail deposits it's urine several times a day using its urine to mark territory and leaving it's mark to allow other whitetails a calling card to gather herd data.When a doe deposits its urine in the off season it aids in the chain of high Archy and allows bucks and other doe's to know by the strength of the urine if the depositor is of yearling of adult in nature.This gives a premature evaluation of rutting activity and allows the rest of the herd an alert response to its presence in the core area.

A core area is an area in which a whitetail has decided that there is a perimeter in which it chooses to dwell within and leave its mark in way of scent distribution.Urine scent collective data can be used as a social or territorial way of letting other whitetails know which deer are present in the core area .Younger bucks have a mimicking way of dispersing its urine and though it tries to mimic its mature bachelor group during the bachelor phase it cannot poses the mature musk that is within the adult whitetail bucks urine thus giving some scrapes a sweeter smelling urine deposit very easy for an adult buck to pic off during the seeking and chasing phase of the prerut/rut .This can often cause harm to younger bucks that are not as timber savvy as their once bachelorhood partners as the separation of friends to foe takes place.

A young buck trying to make it's presence known by depositing it's scent on fresh rubs and scrapes can often give way to an adult buck giving chase to this younger stud resulting in a lesson on dominance.When a mature buck comes in contact with one of these younger bucks a dominant posture and scent distribution takes place over marking it's boundary to ensure it's place as the dominant figure in the timber some times the near scent of one of these magnificent bucks can send a young buck running for cover .By using young buck urine during the prerut as a scent lure it will give any other buck both young and mature a reason to investigate the perpetrator and seek to remove that young stud out away from any prospective doe's that may be in estrus.Giving the hunter multiple chances at harvesting a buck young or mature .

During this prerut or rutting phase a doe in the herd may go into estrus, some times multiple doe's will enter this transition putting out a musky scent in which many of whitetail bucks have fallen too. When this transition takes place bucks from both inside and outside the chosen core area will come in search of the hot doe in an attempt to breed her.Two ways to tell is a doe is feeling her estrus cycle is to observe her tarsal gland area if it is a mahogany color that is usually a sure sign or a doe's tail horizontal form extended out in stiff formation is a way she will distribute a scent trail through the timber. Often by letting this hot doe pass by your position can give you that chance of a lifetime by dragging in several pursuing bucks .

Some would say what is the difference if it's a young buck urine or and dominate buck urine well it's all in the structural components in the urine itself see when a mature buck has had several years to absorb its musky dominant urine into it's spongy like tarsal glands located inside of the rear knees of the buck it forms a much more dominant musky odor showing once again it's long lived experiences in the timber which in turns means dominance and how it's near presence shows the true royal and almost king of the timber like symbol needed to keep control of the herd . The whitetail buck will mark it's territory by making multiple scrapes and depositing it's urine into this scrape while in the motion of depositing this urine the buck will urinate down it's leg sending the urine to the tarsal gland and rubbing the two tarsals together to deposit a stronger yet much dominate aroma into and onto the scrape area.Another way for a buck to deposit it's scent is through the forehead glands located at the near base of the antlers allowing the buck to deposit it's scent while actively rubbing tree's as a sign post to show it's presence and also to strengthen the neck muscles for battle.In some core areas there may be several of these majestic royals that will compete to the death if need be to be the on top breeder in the herd .

If this the most dominant buck should say fall to its demise by a hunter or other means the next will step in place and announce its dominance to the herd.Now when a doe goes into estrus and if it's not bred it can and most of the time will have another estrus cycle up to 28 days later thus giving a double chance at rutting behavior .

Using this information in cadence with your prerutting and rutting activity in your region can allow you to know which urine's to be used and when . I will use Social Doe Urine all season long as a cover scent on my boots and drags when hunting early season .Switching to Doe-N-Estrus urine during the seeking and searching phase through out the rut while using Young Buck urine to entice cruising bucks to my stand.If I am hunting a sure dominant buck I would Use Buck Brawler to surely close the deal on getting any mature royals to get fired up and go on the search for the intruder that has entered the domain of this said dominant buck.
